I understand where Virginia Woolf was coming from when she wrote that "Good books are desirable..., even if [the authors] show every variety of depravity". I have no doubt that every single author I quote has some aspects of their character that I would reject in real life and yet I can derive from their works amazing lessons about life.

Having said that, if the author of those works is still alive and using the wealth that they have accumulated from their skills to actively hurt others in a marginalized group, then I have a moral duty to boycott the works of that author.

Let future generations enjoy the Harry Potter tales, for now I stand with The Verge saying there is no ethical way to watch or read anything from the Harry Potter series.
