The Sunday Philadelphia Inquierer devoted the entire opinion section to the importance of studying Black History. It began with a quote from W.E.B DuBois who was instrumental in the early movement to study Black history in America.

In the late 1800s, DuBois, as a young man, conducted a study of Black history in the city of Philadelphia for the University of Pennsylvania. In this early work he told us that we must investigate the history of the country with "an earnest desire for the truth despite its possible unpleasantness"

In this spirit it is so depressing to see the current administration trying to erase any history that might cause unpleasantness in the feelings of the groups that oppressed their fellow citizens for hundreds of years.
