We are hearing from insiders in the AI space who are realizing that their work is going to be a major disruption to human society. People who have spent years developing skills that made them useful, employable, and capable of supporting their families are going to be made obsolete in the blink of an eye.

Kurt Vonnegut realized 75 years ago that this day would arrive. In his book, Player Piano, he talked about how the mechanization of blue collar jobs would soon be coming to white collar work. He knew that when that day arrived large numbers of people would not only be cheated out of their livelihoods, but also their self-respect. Whether we like it or not one of the most important things on earth is for us to feel needed and useful to our society. When the rug is pulled out from under us with no hope of ever returning to careers that we spent decades perfecting we are going to be left as broken husks along the side of the road call "Progress". In reality it is just more human lives sacrificed to Mammon, the god of greed.
