We drop bombs on anyone we want, including school children, with no pretense of legal justification. We ban companies that don't want to participate in the inhumanity from doing any business with the American government based on nothing more than the fiat of our president. We ignore the orders of courts. We dictate rules to organizations like the boy scouts.

Maybe Mark Twain is right and the future might have a great deal of good things in store for us, but I don't see it playing out that way. But for sure, the present is bleak and hopeless.
