In the last few days we have had some small steps taken to continue the process of getting rid of the hereditary aristocracy in the United Kingdom. Mark Twain wrote over 130 years ago that "it is enough to make a body ashamed" to see how we have tolerated and even celebrated "the 7th rate people that have always figured as its aristocracies".

So amid all the other bad news that make us all ashamed of being associated with our country or civilization in general, here is at least a small step forward.
