Whether it is a prison or an ICE detention camp, our society continues to send human beings to the worst of hells so that society may be "protected" from phantoms of its own making. And this time the phantom that we are protecting ourselves from was a person who risked everything to protect American soldiers and help advance American interests.

If we do put troops on the ground in Iran, I hope all the locals who might have been sympathetic to our cause and who might have served as translators, negotiators, or even soldiers in our cause realize that their assistance will never be appreciated by our government.
