Over 50 years ago, the great Shirley Chisholm said the obvious, "abortion is a fact of life. Women will have them; they always have and always will". Today's NPR article, once again, shows the truth of her statement. I just don't understand why it is so hard for people in the "Pro-Life" movement to see that if they want to reduce the number of abortions that they should reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies. Eduction and easy access to free birth control would be a start, but also we need ways to support women before, during, and after the birth of their children.

As Chisholm says we cannot legislate abortions away, but we can reduce unwanted pregnancies and we can make sure people know they will be supported if they choose to continue with their unexpected pregnancy.

For the abortions that remain, the question becomes, are they going safe ones or bad ones? I hope anyone who claims to be pro-life would immediately see that safe ones are the best option.
