Paraphrasing Thoreau is the best way to describe Pete Hegseth: "You talk of heaven but you disgrace the Earth".
Today's Philadelphia Inquirer had a story with very mellow headline: "Hegseth's assertive faith breaks norms, critics say". But as we read the story we get chilling details of how he is using his extremist religious views to move our military in a direction that puts us on track to repeat some of the worst state-sponsored behavior in human history.
Colin Powell's former Chief of Staff is quoted as telling us that Hegseth's actions are "totally violative of everything that has transpired before it".
A Major General tells us that people who don't share Hegseth's religious fervor are not included in meetings.
A member of the senior staff with decades of Pentagon experience tells us that people are afraid to talk with one another about this issue. They also describe the situation inside the building as "Terrifying".
The Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans of America tell us that "faith is being weaponized".
An Air Force General laments that "Decades worth of progress [in accommodating different faiths] has been undone in 12 months".
And the head of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation says, "It's a recipe for a civil war with military on both sides".
The most dangerous part about all of this comes as Hegseth uses his religious faith to wage war against those he deems heretics. Iranians today, Cubans tomorrow, and Americans very soon if we don't demand his removal now!! The article tells us that Hegseth prayed for U.S. troops to inflict "overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy ... We ask these things with bold confidence in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ."
