W.E.B. Du Bois reminds us that although life is a hard thing for the poorest members of society, it is still incredibly human and real! This truism is something those in power are desperately trying to get us to forget. I ask you to take a few minutes to read this article from the Guardian about the people we are murdering in the Pacific and the Caribbean.

As the article points out, all the people killed come from extremely poor communities and they "were flesh-and-blood people" who were loved and counted on for support by other members of the community. These victims were probably never identified beforehand by the US military and their murders were "part of a military spectacle to give the illusion of the administration doing something macho about drugs"

The boats targeted were small, short range vehicles that never could have made it to the United States and in some cases they were headed AWAY from America when attacked. There is no independent evidence these boats were running drugs, but even if they were, "there is no death penalty for cocaine trafficking" and those murdered were "killed without even having the chance to defend themselves" in a court of law.

The article makes it very clear that we cannot risk this type of killing being "normalized by the population and US Politicians". And for this reason, I once again urge you to read this article, share it with others, and speak up about it every chance you get!
