This morning I was sent the Bishop of Trenton's statement on the attacks against Pope Leo by Donald Trump. One of the things that caught my eye was when the bishop talked about how a "just war" must involve legitimate defense. It reminded me of words written by Thomas Paine in 1776.

Paine tells us that the offensive actions against the people of Iran are murder while the actions of the Ukrainians against the Russians are not only justified, but imperative for their survival. He tells us that no amount of treasure (or in this case oil) should induce us to support the actions that our own government unleashed against the people of Iran.
