April 24, 2026
This week we celebrate World Book Day (April 23rd) and Independent Bookstore Day (April 25th).
Emily Dickinson reminds us that "There is no frigate like a book, to take us lands away". And, so long as we continue to have thriving libraries, "This traverse may the poorest take, without oppress of toll".
So get out to your local library or if you can afford it, to your local independent bookstore and get yourself a ticket to places no traveler can go no matter how much they spend on their journey. "How frugal is the chariot, that bears a human soul".
Currently, I am on a journey with Alice Walker called Meridian. I have been transported back in time to see the events that awakened a young woman in the 1960s to become a part of the Civil Rights movement. I am 100 pages into my trip and I cannot wait to see how the rest of the adventure plays out.
I would love it if you would share with me the book(s) that you are presently reading.
