We read in the Associated Press that some Republican controlled states want to eliminate property taxes totally. I guess this sounds great to the people struggling to get by, but the real goal is to increase the wealth of the largest landowners while decimating the services relied on by the common person.

The largest chunk of tax money goes to public schools. The rich don't care if these schools crumble because they don't send their kids there. The net result is the bifurcation of our society accelerates as kids in the lower classes lose their best ticket out of poverty.

I fall on the side of W.E.B. DuBois who says we should be increasing our spending on education ten fold. Eliminate the taxes on property worth less than half a million dollars and then raise the rates on those properties worth over a million dollars.
