Joseph Heller tells us that we can allow ourselves to become so self-obsessed that small annoyances feel like bigger issues than actual disasters around the world. He wants us to realize that we need to keep things in perspective. We might be thousands of miles away from this problem, but we can use some of our funds to help those who are willing to go to the site of the disaster to help alleviate some of the suffering. My personal go-to is World Central Kitchen (donation link here), but helping any of the organizations that do work on the ground is something we can all do to help.
