Today's story comes to us from The Salt Lake Tribune where we learn that it only takes two school districts to create a state-wide book ban and that banned books must be physically destroyed. Giving the books away is not allowed. Putting the books in a dumpster is not permissible. Selling the books to a used book store out of state is not an option. We need the spectacle of seeing the book physically destroyed.
If the book is on the AP reading list, too bad, it must be destroyed. If the book is sitting in the library and is not going to be assigned to any student, it is a crime to leave the book on the shelf, for it must be destroyed.
Sadly, too many students have "stopped reading of their own accord", so "the firemen are rarely necessary". But destroying the books "provide a circus now". "It's a small sideshow indeed, and hardly necessary to keep things in line". Still, I am sure that "Mothers Against Critical Thinking" are proud of the work they are doing.
