Over 100 years ago, Edith Wharton noticed "that Americans want to get away from amusement even more quickly than they want to get to it". And in that vain, Governor Josh Shapiro came to South Philly to unveil a multimillion-dollar plan that aims to reduce the traffic woes around the sports complex. He did this in front of a sign that said, "Less Traffic, Safer Roads," and yet I saw nothing in the reports that mentioned an increase in public transportation. No extra buses or trains, so by extension, the same number of cars.
What was mentioned was over 6 million dollars for AI controlled traffic lights and new lanes that can handle 500 cars per hour under the best of conditions. Call me skeptical if I think a lot of this money will be wasted and the traffic will not be noticeably better in 2031 than it is now.
