Everyday we read about people being released from ICE custody on a judge's order because the person was illegally detained. In the meantime, their family may have spent months without their breadwinner. They may have gone into debt, spending thousands of dollars they didn't have on legal fees. These detentions not only cause emotional stress, but can also cause a financial strain that might ruin a family permanently.

Take Thomas Paine's advice: Make their case your own. Protest. Think about what you would do if your family was driven from house and home because an illegal detention cost them everything they had. Imagine emerging from your unlawful detention to find your circumstances ruined.

Paine says he could never reconcile himself to a power that did this to him and I think I would feel the same. Use your voice, end this madness.
