Today's quote is for C. Kirk. This week we mark the anniversary of a day the world will never forget: the first airing of Star Trek on National TV on this week in 1966. It was then the world was introduced to Captain Kirk and all the other brilliant characters who inhabited the world of the future. One of the main messages of the show was strength through diversity, and space was just the backdrop to teach this message to an audience that was raised in Jim Crow America.

The actor who played Kirk got to visit space a few years ago and he came back with a message that Thoreau tried to teach us over a hundred and fifty years ago. The real heaven is under our feet and it is the thing we need to treasure and take care of now and forever.
